Deepak Padmanabhan
Chief Executive Officer

Deepak Padmanabhan serves as CEO of EIT and is a member of the organization's founding leadership team, in place since its inception in 2006. The EIT board has given him the responsibility of leading the development of value-creation plans for operating companies, supervising all investments and new acquisitions, and closely monitoring investments during the post-acquisition phase. As CEO, Padmanabhan is also responsible for, managing EIT's relationship with its shareholders and the process of selecting the senior executives appointed to lead EIT's managed companies.

Padmanabhan has developed best international practices for investments in telecommunications companies and created a new model of operational excellence that has been critical in creating new value in telecom incumbents leading to superior business results. He has also brought together a leading team of expert telecom executives with a collective 400 years of industry experience.

When he joined EIT, Padmanabhan had more than twenty years of industry experience in telecommunications, including work on mergers and acquisitions, strategy and investments and value creation. He joined EIT from TECOM Investments, where he served as Chief Strategy and Business Development Officer and developed the concept and design of Dubai's knowledge clusters and led the international development of TECOM's business. At TECOM Investments, he also developed numerous new businesses in areas including telecom, media, education, ICT and other industries.

Padmanabhan serves as Chairman of Forthnet S.A. and Malta Properties Company. He is also a director of Tunisie Telecom, The Indus Entrepreneurs and SmartCity Malta. In September 2017, Padmanabhan was appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of SmartCity Malta, a joint venture between SmartCity (a Dubai Holding entity) and the government of Malta. He is tasked with implementing the founding mission and vision of creating a knowledge economy cluster, which will aims to contribute to the Maltese economy while providing shareholder return on its investment.
